This week we explored la casa (the house). To introduce our topic, we read the The Tree Little Pigs by Fiona Conboy. We used big blocks to build the tree different houses and usedmasks to role play the book of the Three Little Pigs, the children loved it especially loved being the lobo (wolf).

We looked inside a picture of a home and identified el baño (bathroom), cocina (kitchen), habitación (bedroom). We discussed what were some things we do in each of these rooms such as cepillar los dientes (brush your teeth), dormir (sleep) and comer (eat).

We placed these different rooms we learned about inside our house and then made a 3D house using brown paper bags.
We explored the different rooms of a house manipulating puzzles!

The children had so much fun coloring their casas (houses) using dab-a-dots. To help them identify their vowels, they had to search them in the shaving cream.

We had a very fun week in the Ardilla’s class. We reviewed the lowercase letter ‘I’ and worked on tracing curved lines to write the letter and sounding out the letter. We continued to review our alphabet and did activities to identify the letters in our workbooks.

In class we reviewed the rooms of our houses by singing songs as well as going on a tour of Peppa Pig’s house. We then made our very own which you will find displayed in the classroom on Monday.

We had a lovely visit from a mother, who came in to read the Ardillas a story about Chinese New Year. The children colored Chinese lions and cards, and at the end of the activity, they were surprised with a sweet treat in a colorful envelope.

This week we covered many important concepts and we started learning about our cultural heritages.

Ms. Paula taught us about her country of birth, Uruguay. We learned about the typical music from the country called ‘candombe.’ In music class, Mr. Alfonso kept teaching us about ‘candombe.’

We had a special activity this week about friendship. We listened to a read-aloud and then we came up with things good friends do and do not do. We also discussed kindness.

In history, we learned about the Pre-history period and we painted laying down on the floor inside a ‘cavern.’ In geography, we reviewed the four cardinal points and we learned about the Southern United states and, also, the West Coast and the Pacific ocean.
