Kindergarten class

This week we had 3 English days and 2 Spanish Days. In English students made up silly and real words. (dad, dap,dot,dat, dim,det,dut). In Spanish, they made up silly words beginning with the letter  ‘d’ (dadada, dedo, deduda, dame, dade).

In English, we worked on writing uppercase and lowercase ‘Dd’. In Spanish, we focused on writing lowercase ‘d’(cursive).

This week students worked on recognizing the following sight words:

In Math, students worked on solving simple subtraction problems. They also learned how to draw and describe a square and a rhombus.

In Science, we continue to learn about severe weather. Asked them what would they need to do if there was a thunderstorm, bizarre, hurricane, or tornado in NYC.

In International Studies we began to learn about Japan. Ask them about the colors on the Japanese flag. Next week we will learn about Mount Fuji.

In History/Geography, students have been very curious and eager to learn about the elections. They learned some facts about the two candidates, and the requirements needed to be a President. Next week, we will learn how people vote and in class we will have our very own mock elections (Book: Duck or Rabbit). Students will vote on whether it was a duck or rabbit in the story.

First Grade Class

Welcome to Week 8. Officially two months since our first graders have been in school. Week in and week out their enthusiasm for learning grows and I am greatly enjoying experiencing that. Let’s dive into Week 8 and all the fun and learning that took place.

For Geography/History, students continued their study on the United States as they began exploring the Northwestern region of the country. Students learned about Washington, Wyoming and Oregon as they completed a word search and map in pairs pertaining to the above-mentioned states.

In Mathematics, students worked on their multiplication by creating their own word problems.

In EMAT, students continued working on currency adding bills and coins together as they pretended to go shopping to complete pages from their math workbooks.

From the Earth models students began last week, they opened it up to unveil the Earth’s interior which consists of the Earth’s crust, mantle, inner and outer core.

Ardillas Class

The children had so much fun with our in class Halloween activities.

In Mathematics this week they identified, traced, and quantified the number 2. They also identified the objects with pares (gloves, socks, and boots). In addition, they continued working on AB patterns with cars and dolls. Furthermore, the children did one- to- one matching the same images from one side of the page to the other. Lastly, they identified and colored the hen from a blended image with a bunny.

In Reading and writing, the children identified the letter i in a birthday scene and circled them. In addition, they practice iglú (u shaped) strokes by helping the frog leap to the Lilly pad and scales on a fish. Lastly, the children traced levantado strokes from the spider’s web to the spiders.

In Social Studies, our theme was Halloween. They children decorated: cats, bats, spiders, pumpkins and monsters.

Pre-K Class

It has been a good week for your children, we had a lot of fun. We are going to show you what we did during this week.

In Language Arts Writing/Reading: Students keep reviewing the vowels A, E, I, O,U, and the alphabet every morning. Now we are focused on the letters B, C , CH, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, Ñ, and P phonetically and practicing different symbols that will help them remember the letters. They still practiced different kinds of strokes that will serve to write letters later. We are still focused on letter U, uppercase, lowercase, phonetically and grammatically, we are discovering different words that begin with that letter, and also reviewing how to write the letter i, uppercase and lowercase. We are reading different interactive tales. This week we read “Hansel and Gretel” and “Peter and the wolf”.

In Math: We practiced every day the counting numbers 0 to 10. We also count out loud until number 30. They are practicing how to write numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. We were doing different activities in which they have to know where to put different objects, to the right or to the left, up, down, or in the middle. We were recognizing different sizes as long and short, we are still practicing big, medium, or small. We are still working on cardinal numbers, as first, second, third, fourth, and fifth. We were practicing how to solve mazes.

In Music: We were dancing and singing different Spanish songs, these weeks: “El auto nuevo”, “Drilo el cocodrilo”, “Como me pica la nariz” and “El pirata Barbanegra”.

In Physical Education, we were practicing soccer, scoring goals, moving the ball with our feet from one side to the other. We were doing cardiovascular activities, dancing and running in zig-zag, or doing eights, to help them to improve their flexibility and make their ankles adapt to rapid changes. We have practiced a different kind of games and balance exercises with balls and cones.

In Science, we were remembering the body parts and we started learning the most important organs.

In Geography/History, we reviewed the 7 continents. We were reviewing Africa, North America, South America, Asia, Oceania/Australia, and learning Europe and Antarctica its different kind of animals and characteristics.

In Visual Art: we were doing different crafts: this week we made a lot of decorations and things related to Halloween.

In International studies: We were doing a Spanish guitar and listened to few songs related to that.

In chess: We reviewed the board, the pieces, where to place them, the movements of pawn, rook, bishop, and we learned the movements of a knight, king, and queen.

Koalas Class

This week was so much fun with the koalas celebrating ” El Dia de las brujas” at Maryel.
During this week koalas performed a variety of activities focused on this holiday.

Koalas reviewed the shape of a “triangle” while painting and creating the face of their pumpkins. Students also reviewed the texture “suave y pegajoso” (soft and sticky) of some materials such as cotton balls and masking tape to decorate ghosts and mummies. Students also practiced counting from 1 to 3 while they were working their fine motor skills using q-tips.
