Admissions Procedures

We are accepting late applicants on a rolling basis for 2020-2021. Click here to apply for the 2020-21 school year.

Step 1: APPLICATION AND FEE

Online applications for the 2021-2022 school year will be available beginning Tuesday, September 1. A non-refundable application fee of $75 is due upon submission. Although we continue to accept applications throughout the year, the December 15 deadline provides applicants with the best possible chance of admission and financial aid considerations. This timeline is suggested to help maximize your chance for enrollment given our small class sizes and limited availability.

Step 2: VIRTUAL FAMILY MEETING

After you apply online and submit an application fee, you will be contacted by an admissions representative to set up your Virtual Family Meeting. This will be an individual private virtual session through Zoom for PARENTS ONLY. Both parents, if applicable, are encouraged to attend.

Step 3: GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CHILD

We can’t wait to meet your child! Since we are not able to meet your child in person, we will work to know him/her through multiple lenses:

Preschool (2’s, 3’s and Pre-Kindergarten)

  • Short videos
  • Parent reflections
  • Recommendation form, if your child is attending another preschool
  • Brief Zoom calls that will be play/conversation based as in our in-person assessments.

Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade

  • School transcript or two most recent report cards (Kindergarten: if available)
  • Academic recommendation from a current teacher (Kindergarten: if available)
  • Child assessment by our faculty through Zoom.

Step 4: NOTIFICATION DATES FOR 2021-2022

Preschool 2, 3 and Pre-Kindergarten

  • Families will be notified (by email) of their admissions decision not before Thursday, February 25, 2021.
  • Parent replies are due no later than noon on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

Kindergarten,  1st  grade and 2nd grade

  • Families will be notified (by email) of their admissions decision on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
  • Parent replies are due no later than noon on Thursday, February 11, 2021.

Parents who accept admission must return a signed contract with a non-refundable deposit which will be credited towards tuition.

 

Early Notification Option for Siblings

Preschool 2, 3 and Pre-Kindergarten

  • Families will be notified (by email) of their admissions decision not before Tuesday, December 1, 2020 and not later than Friday, January 15, 2021.
  • Parent replies are due no later than noon on Friday, January 22, 2021.

Kindergarten,  1st  grade and 2nd grade

  • Families will be notified (by email) of their admissions decision not before Wednesday, December 9, 2020 and not later than Monday, January 11, 2021.
  • Parent replies are due no later than noon on Friday, January 15, 2021

FAQs

The youngest age that the preschool offers enrollment is 2 years. That is, your child must turn 2 by the first day of school.

Separation anxiety is common in preschool, and we fully understand that it can be challenging for both the children and parents. In order to make the separation process easier for the child to acclimate to their new environment, we have come up with a schedule that will accommodate children at the beginning of the school year. However, if your child needs extra time during the separation process, we will modify on an individual basis. We respect the pace of each individual child and our teachers are caring and patient during this phase-in process. Teachers will also work closely with the caretakers to ensure a smooth transition.

Our school classes has a maximum of 12 students with 2 teachers, and a third floater teacher is also present when a class needs extra support.

Your child does not need to be toilet trained before starting in the 2’s program. Learning to use the toilet is like learning any new skill, it takes time. Each child learns at their own pace. While some children learn to use the toilet within one week, for many others the process will be a much longer one. Your child will eventually learn to use the toilet at their own time. By working in partnership with your child’s teacher, the process of learning to use the toilet can be a positive and gratifying experience for all concerned.

Toilet training is conducted in a relaxed manner. Therefore, when your child is ready for toilet training, we ask that you begin the process at home during a weekend or vacation. We will follow through and encourage your child while in our care.

Potty training is required for children starting in the 3’s program.

National studies have shown that children in dual-language programs, as a group, perform the same or better than their monolingual English speaking peers in achievement tests in math, reading, and writing.

You do not need to speak Spanish to be supportive of your child’s learning. Attending our parents’ workshops and reaching out to your child’s teacher via email for further clarification are all useful venues for support. Classroom newsletters and weekly updates give helpful background information about students’ day-to-day activities at school.

Maryel School celebrates diversity as part of our mission. However, it may be surprising to hear that most of our Spanish language learners come from English speaking households.
