Now that the holidays are approaching, we want to promote compassion and empathy in our children by helping the less fortunate.

This year, Maryel will be supporting the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC)holiday toy drive for newly arrived refugee families being settled in the New York area.  Every December, the IRC hosts a holiday party for these families, who typically come to the US from all over the world with few possessions.

The IRC has requested that we collect money to purchase the toys rather than actual toys.  This will ensure that refugee families receive age and gender appropriate gifts for their children.

There will be a collection box available in the office staring next week and continuing until Friday, November 20th.  Only cash will be accepted and we welcome you to contribute whatever amount feels right. We will be sure to share photos and other details of theholiday party afterward so you can see firsthand the joy these gifts bring!
Once the toys are purchased with your donations, we will have a wrapping party (in Early December) in each classroom so that our children can be involved!

About the IRC
The IRC helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health care, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 40 countries, with special programs designed for women and children. Every year, the IRC resettles thousands of refugees in 22 U.S. cities.  It was founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein.
