We are excited to announce and introduce Dr. Elizabeth Ijalba who will be visiting Maryel next week.

Dr. Elizabeth Ijalba will be conducting a one-hour meeting with parents at our school to talk about the latest research and methods on raising children bilingually. 

This meeting will allow parents to share their questions and experiences about their children. 

 

We will discuss the neurolinguistic, cognitive, and social aspects ofbilingualism.  We will consider what to look for in education programs.  We will also discuss what parents can do to sustain their children’slanguage and academic growth.

We encourage parents to prepare their questions andbring them to this meeting. 

 

Dr. Elizabeth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Disorders at Queens College, City University of New York.  She conducts research on bilingualism andparent education and is Director of the Bilingual Biliteracy Lab at Queens College.  She is on the faculty of the Bilingual Extension Institute at Teachers College, Columbia University.  She is certified as a Speech Language Pathologist by the American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and she holds Bilingual Extension and teaching certifications in the State of New York.   Her research on bilingualism is published in scientific journals and she presents at national and international venues.
