Dr. Elizabeth  will be conducting a one-hour focus group with parents at our school to learn about your language practices and beliefs regarding bilingualism.  This focus group will allow parents to share your questions and experiences about raising their child bilingual. Parents who participate in this meeting will be asked questions about:

-How they are structuring their children’s language experiences at home.

-Their expectations on language development for their children.

-The attitudes they have encountered about learning two languages.

The focus group will be followed by a 45 min presentation by Dr. Ijalba on current research findings on bilingualism. We will discuss the neurolinguistic, cognitive, and social aspects of bilingualism. We will consider what to look for in education programs. We will also discuss what parents can do to sustain their children’s language and academic growth.

Schedule:

-Sharing questions and experiences: 5:30 pm to 6:30pm

-Short recess: 6:30 pm to 6:45pm
